Baking Soda Grease Cleaner: The Right Way 🧽

Baking soda can help tackle greasy messes, but the mixture should be adjusted depending on the surface. A simple paste is useful for many washable kitchen surfaces.

The basic recipe

  • ½ cup baking soda

  • 2 tablespoons dishwashing liquid

  • 2–4 tablespoons warm water

Mix the baking soda and dish soap first, then add water gradually until you get a thick paste.

How to use it

  1. Apply a small amount to the greasy area.

  2. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes.

  3. Gently scrub with a soft sponge or cloth.

  4. Wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth.

  5. Dry the surface.

This can work well on stovetops, sinks, range-hood surfaces, and other washable kitchen areas, provided the manufacturer’s instructions allow it.

⚠️ Don’t use this recipe everywhere

Baking soda is mildly abrasive, so avoid vigorous scrubbing on nonstick coatings, polished stone, delicate finishes, or easily scratched surfaces. Test an inconspicuous spot first.

And never mix baking soda with chlorine bleach, ammonia, or other cleaning chemicals.

For very heavy grease, a good dish detergent or purpose-made degreaser may work better than baking soda.
