Turmeric Ginger Lemon Wellness Drink

Turmeric, Ginger & Lemon Wellness Drink — Healthy or Hype?

This can be a refreshing, nutritious drink, but it shouldn’t be presented as a detox, cure, or miracle immune booster. Evidence for turmeric and ginger varies by condition, and studies of supplements don’t necessarily apply to a homemade drink.

🥤 Simple recipe

  • 1 cup warm water
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½–1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • Juice from ½ lemon

Stir well and drink while warm. A little honey can be added for taste.

What might it actually do?

  • Ginger has the best evidence for helping certain types of nausea and may have modest benefits for some other conditions.
  • Turmeric/curcumin is being studied for inflammation and osteoarthritis, but the evidence isn’t strong enough to call turmeric a proven treatment.
  • Lemon adds flavor and vitamin C, but there’s no evidence that lemon water “flushes toxins” from the body.

⚠️ A couple of cautions

Ginger can cause heartburn, abdominal discomfort or diarrhea, while turmeric can also cause stomach upset or reflux.

Be more cautious with concentrated turmeric/curcumin supplements, particularly products marketed as highly bioavailable; some have been associated with liver injury.
