Say Goodbye to Poor Circulation With One Key Vitamin” — Is That True?
This headline is misleading. There isn’t a vitamin that can reliably “fix” poor circulation in the legs and feet.
One vitamin that can be important is vitamin B12. A B12 deficiency can cause numbness, tingling, weakness and balance problems, particularly in the hands and feet, because deficiency can damage nerves. But that’s different from actually improving blood flow.
What if the problem really is poor blood flow?
Reduced circulation can be caused by peripheral artery disease (PAD), in which plaque narrows the arteries supplying the legs and feet. Typical warning signs include:
- Leg cramping or aching when walking that improves with rest
- One foot being colder than the other
- Pale, blue or unusually discolored feet
- Numbness or weakness
- Sores that heal slowly or don’t heal
- Pain in the feet or legs even while resting in severe cases
PAD isn’t something a vitamin can cure. Treatment can include walking/exercise programs, stopping smoking, controlling cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes, and medications; severe cases may require procedures to restore blood flow.
🚨 Don’t ignore sudden changes
If one leg or foot suddenly becomes cold, pale/blue, painful, numb, or difficult to move, that’s an emergency because blood flow may have become severely blocked.
