Clear your throat and lungs of mucus with this recipe – just 2 ingredients

That “2-ingredient mucus-clearing recipe” headline is misleading. No home recipe can literally clean mucus out of your lungs. Your airways already have natural mechanisms for moving mucus out, and treatment depends on what’s causing it.

For ordinary throat/chest congestion, a simple and generally safe approach is:

  • Warm water + honey: Stir about 1–2 teaspoons of honey into warm water and sip it slowly. This can soothe an irritated throat and may reduce coughing. Do not give honey to children under 1 year.

  • Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to help keep mucus less thick.

  • A saline nasal rinse can help if the mucus is coming from post-nasal drainage. Use sterile/distilled water or previously boiled and cooled water.

  • Avoid smoking and vaping, which can increase airway irritation and mucus.

You don’t need baking soda, vinegar, garlic mixtures, or “lung detox” drinks to clear your lungs.

Get medical attention if you have difficulty breathing, chest pain, cough up blood, develop a high/persistent fever, or have a cough or mucus that doesn’t improve or keeps getting worse.
