Ants can’t stand it! Use it to keep them away for good.

If you’re referring to the viral claim about a household substance that ants supposedly “can’t stand,” the safest reality is that most strong-smelling DIY remedies don’t eliminate an ant infestation permanently.

🐜 What actually works

  • Clean up food and sugary spills promptly.
  • Store food in sealed containers and keep pet food from sitting out.
  • Wipe ant trails with soapy water to remove the chemical trail other ants follow.
  • Seal cracks and gaps around windows, doors, pipes, and foundations.
  • Use ant bait rather than relying solely on sprays. Worker ants carry suitable bait back to the colony, which can help address the source rather than just the ants you can see.
  • Follow the product label carefully, particularly if children or pets are present.

What about cinnamon, vinegar, coffee grounds, peppermint, or lemon?

These may temporarily make an area less attractive because of their smell, but they generally don’t provide reliable, permanent control of an established colony.

Also avoid spreading potentially harmful chemicals around food-preparation areas or using toxic substances where children or pets could contact them.

Bottom line: If you want ants gone “for good,” removing food sources, blocking entry points, and using an appropriate bait are much more dependable than a viral one-ingredient trick.
