1. Sudden weakness or numbness
Especially in the face, arm, or leg on one side of the body.
2. Sudden trouble speaking
Speech may become slurred, confused, or difficult to understand, or the person may suddenly have trouble understanding others.
3. Sudden vision problems
This can include sudden blurred or double vision or loss of vision in one or both eyes.
4. Sudden dizziness or loss of balance
Unexpected difficulty walking, coordination problems, or severe dizziness can be a warning sign.
5. Sudden, severe headache
A sudden, unusually intense headache with no obvious cause can accompany a stroke or other serious neurological problem.
⏱️ The most important point
Don’t wait for symptoms to disappear. Even if weakness, speech difficulty, or vision problems last only a few minutes and then completely resolve, it could be a TIA. The person still needs urgent medical assessment because the underlying problem may remain.
If any of these symptoms are happening right now, treat them as a stroke emergency and call your local emergency medical service immediately. Note the time the symptoms started and don’t drive the person yourself if emergency transport is available.
