What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

  1. Blood pressure does not have one “normal” number for every age. In adults, the same general thresholds are commonly used regardless of age, while children and teenagers are assessed differently based on age, sex, and height.

    Typical adult blood-pressure categories

Blood pressure Systolic (top) Diastolic (bottom)
    Normal <120 and <80 mmHg
    Elevated 120–129 and <80
    High — Stage 1 130–139 or 80–89
    High — Stage 2 ≥140 or ≥90
    Very high ≥180 and/or ≥120

A single reading doesn’t necessarily mean you have hypertension. Blood pressure varies with activity, stress, caffeine, illness, and measurement technique, so repeated properly taken readings are more informative.

For children under 13, there isn’t a simple age-only table; clinicians use growth-based blood-pressure percentiles. For teenagers 13 and older, adult-style thresholds are generally used.

If you give me the person’s age and their blood-pressure reading (for example, 65 years old, 150/90), I can explain what that particular reading means.
