How much is too much?

For adults, the general tolerable upper intake level is 4,000 IU (100 mcg) of vitamin D per day from all sources, unless a healthcare professional has specifically prescribed a higher dose for a limited period. NCBI+1

That doesn’t mean 4,000 IU is automatically toxic. Doctors sometimes prescribe higher doses to correct a documented deficiency and monitor blood levels and calcium when appropriate.
