parmigiano-how-to-store-it-properly-to-prevent-mold-and-waste

If you mean Parmigiano-Reggiano (Parmesan), proper storage can make a big difference in preventing mold and keeping the cheese from drying out.

🧀 How to store Parmigiano-Reggiano
Keep it refrigerated: Store it at about 4°C (39°F) or below.
Wrap it properly: For a wedge, wrap the cheese in waxed/parchment paper, then place it in a loosely closed food-storage bag or container. This helps it breathe while limiting moisture loss.
Avoid airtight plastic wrapping directly against the cheese: Trapped moisture can encourage mold.
Keep it away from strong-smelling foods: Parmesan can absorb odors from the refrigerator.
Grate only what you need: A whole wedge generally keeps its quality longer than pre-grated cheese.
Check it regularly: If a hard wedge develops a small patch of surface mold, you can generally cut away the mold generously, including surrounding and underlying cheese, then rewrap the remaining cheese with clean materials. Soft, shredded, or grated cheese with mold should generally be discarded.
How long does it last?

A properly stored hard Parmesan wedge can last weeks to months, depending on how fresh it was when purchased and how it is stored. Follow the package’s use-by guidance when available.

One important distinction: Parmigiano-Reggiano is a hard, aged cheese, so its mold-storage advice differs from that for soft cheeses such as Brie or fresh mozzarella.
