High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol? Please Avoid These 3 Things Every Morning
Your morning routine can either support your heart-health goals—or make them harder.
If you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, pay particular attention to these habits:
1. 🥓 Starting the day with a salty, processed breakfast
Bacon, sausages, processed meats, salty packaged foods, and some ready-made breakfast sandwiches can contain a lot of sodium and saturated fat.
Too much sodium can make blood pressure harder to control, while a diet high in saturated fat can raise LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.
Try more minimally processed choices such as oats, fruit, vegetables, whole grains, or other foods that fit your dietary needs.
2. 🚬 Smoking first thing in the morning
Nicotine can temporarily raise blood pressure, while smoking damages blood vessels and significantly increases cardiovascular risk.
If you smoke, quitting is one of the most important steps you can take for your heart and blood vessels.
3. 💊 Skipping prescribed medication
Feeling fine doesn’t necessarily mean your blood pressure or cholesterol is under control.
If you’ve been prescribed medication, take it as directed and don’t stop or change the dose on your own.
If you experience side effects or have concerns, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.
☀️ What should you do instead?
Try starting your day with:
✔️ A balanced, minimally processed breakfast
✔️ Regular physical activity, such as walking
✔️ Your prescribed medications as directed
✔️ Water instead of heavily sweetened drinks
✔️ A consistent sleep schedule
✔️ Less tobacco and excess sodium
