You Won’t Believe What 2 Minutes Can Do to Puffy Eyes…

If your eyes look puffy after poor sleep, crying, allergies, or waking up in the morning, a simple 2-minute routine may temporarily reduce the appearance of swelling.

Try this 2-minute routine

  1. Use a cool compress for about 1 minute.
Place a clean, cool (not ice-cold) washcloth over your closed eyes. Cooling can temporarily constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling.

  2. Gently massage around the eyes for about 1 minute.
With clean hands, use very light pressure around the orbital bone—not directly on the eyeball. Gentle outward movements may help move some accumulated fluid.

A few things that can help longer-term

  • Get adequate sleep.

  • If morning puffiness is common, try sleeping with your head slightly elevated.

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.

  • If allergies are responsible, controlling the allergy can make a significant difference.

  • Limit excessive salt intake if you notice that salty meals make your swelling worse.

Important: Puffy eyes aren’t always just cosmetic. Sudden swelling, especially if it affects one eye, is painful, causes vision changes, or occurs with redness, fever, or facial swelling should be medically evaluated.
