Why Daily Showers After 65 May Do More Harm Than Good

The headline is partly true but misleading. Being over 65 does not mean you should stop showering daily. The concern is that long, hot showers and harsh soaps can worsen age-related dry, fragile skin. By around age 60, nearly everyone experiences some degree of increased skin dryness.

What can happen with excessive showering?

A better approach

You don’t necessarily need to shower less often. If daily showering works for you, keep it short (about 5–10 minutes), use warm rather than hot water, choose a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, and moisturize immediately afterward while the skin is still damp.

Bottom line: The problem isn’t being 65+ or showering every day. It’s overwashing, hot water, harsh cleansers, and failing to moisturize when your skin is prone to dryness.
