When squeezing lemons, don’t make the mistake of throwing away the seeds: they are worth their weight in gold used this way

“Don’t Throw Away Lemon Seeds—They’re Worth Their Weight in Gold”

This is mostly a viral exaggeration. Lemon seeds aren’t a proven superfood or treatment for disease, and there isn’t good human evidence that eating them provides major health benefits. Research on citrus seeds has mainly been laboratory and animal research rather than convincing clinical trials.

So, can you use them?

Occasionally swallowing a lemon seed is generally harmless for most people; the tough seed usually passes through the digestive tract.

One legitimate culinary use is making marmalade or jelly: citrus seeds contain compounds that can contribute to natural pectin formation during cooking, helping jams and jellies set.

⚠️ Don’t deliberately consume large amounts

There isn’t an established medical dose or proven benefit from eating crushed lemon seeds. Also, although rare, lemon-seed allergy has been documented, including severe allergic reactions.
