What Happens When You Take Fish Oil for 90 Days

What Happens When You Take Fish Oil for 90 Days?Fish oil provides omega-3 fatty acids, mainly EPA and DHA. Taking it for 90 days may have some measurable effects, but it isn’t a guaranteed “heart cleanse” or cure for cholesterol problems.

What may happen

1. Triglycerides may decrease
This is one of the best-established effects of EPA/DHA supplements. The size of the reduction depends on the dose and your starting triglyceride level.

2. You may notice little or nothing
If your triglycerides are already normal, you may not feel any different after three months. Omega-3 supplements aren’t a treatment that necessarily produces noticeable symptoms or sensations.

3. Heart benefits aren’t guaranteed
Eating fish as part of a healthy diet is associated with cardiovascular benefits, but evidence for routine fish-oil supplements in people without high cardiovascular risk is much less certain.

4. Some people get digestive side effects
Possible effects include fishy aftertaste or burping, heartburn, nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, and bad breath.

5. High doses require more caution
Large amounts of omega-3 supplements can interact with anticoagulant medicines and other drugs affecting blood clotting. Some prescription omega-3 products also carry warnings concerning recurrent atrial fibrillation in certain patients.

🐟 Food may be the better starting point

The American Heart Association recommends 1–2 servings of seafood per week as part of a heart-healthy eating pattern. Fish provides EPA and DHA along with protein and other nutrients.
