What Does the Color of Your Urine Say About Your Health?
Urine color can provide clues about hydration and certain health conditions, but color alone can’t diagnose a disease.
🟨 Pale yellow
Usually a sign of normal hydration. This is generally what you’re looking for.
🟡 Dark yellow or amber
Often means your urine is more concentrated, which can happen when you haven’t had enough fluids. Drinking some water may return it toward a lighter yellow.
💎 Completely clear
Very clear urine can simply mean you’ve been drinking plenty of water. If it’s consistently clear and you’re drinking unusually large amounts, mention it to a healthcare professional.
🟠Orange
Some medications, supplements, and foods can turn urine orange. If you haven’t had anything that explains the change—or it persists—get medical advice.
🩷 Pink or red
This can sometimes come from foods such as beetroot, but blood in the urine should not be ignored. Urinary infections, kidney stones, and other conditions can cause it.
🟤 Brown or cola-colored
Brown urine can occur with severe dehydration, certain medications, or liver and muscle-related problems. Persistent brown urine warrants prompt medical evaluation.
🟢 or 🔵 Green/blue
Unusual colors can result from certain medications, dyes, or occasionally infections. If there’s no obvious explanation, have it checked.
