𧽠Very Dirty Mop? Don’t Throw It Away Yet!
A dirty, smelly mop doesn’t necessarily need to go in the trash. One simple ingredient that can help break down grime and reduce odors is white vinegar.
𧴠How to clean your mop
- Rinse it first
Thoroughly rinse the mop head with clean water to remove loose dirt. - Prepare a cleaning solution
Add about 1 cup (240 mL) of white vinegar to a bucket of warm water. - Soak the mop head
Place the mop head in the solution for around 15â30 minutes. - Rinse thoroughly
Wash it under clean running water until the water is clear and the vinegar smell is reduced. - Dry it completely âď¸
Wring out as much water as possible and allow the mop head to dry completely in a well-ventilated place or sunlight.
â ď¸ One important warning
Never mix vinegar with bleach, ammonia, or other household cleaners. Mixing cleaning chemicals can produce dangerous fumes.
Also check the mop manufacturer’s instructionsâsome microfiber or specialty mop heads may have specific washing requirements.
If the mop head is heavily worn, permanently stained, falling apart, or still smells bad after cleaning, replacing it may be the better option.
⨠The real secret isn’t a âmagic dropââit’s thorough rinsing, appropriate cleaning, and letting the mop dry completely after every use.
