The vitamin the body lacks when legs and bones are painful

If you mean leg and bone pain, several vitamin or mineral deficiencies can contribute:

  • Vitamin D deficiency — a common cause of bone/muscle aches, weakness, and sometimes leg pain.

  • Calcium deficiency — can contribute to muscle cramps, tingling, and weakened bones.

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency — more often causes tingling, numbness, burning, or weakness in the legs rather than bone pain.

  • Magnesium deficiency — may cause muscle cramps, twitching, or weakness.

Vitamin D deficiency is one of the main possibilities, but leg/bone pain can also come from arthritis, muscle problems, nerve issues, anemia, or other conditions. A blood test for 25-hydroxy vitamin D, and sometimes calcium, B12, and other tests, can help identify the cause.

If the pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by swelling, weakness, numbness, or difficulty walking, it’s worth getting medically evaluated.
