🧽 The Quick Trick for Cleaning Dirty Grout Lines
There isn’t a magic cleaner that removes every type of grout stain in one swipe, but a stiff grout brush plus the right cleaner can make the job much faster.
What you’ll need
- Warm water
- Dish soap
- Baking soda
- Old toothbrush or stiff grout brush
- Microfiber cloth
The quick method
- Sweep or vacuum first to remove loose dirt.
- Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to make a thick paste.
- Apply a thin layer directly along the grout lines.
- Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes.
- Scrub along the grout with a stiff brush.
- Wipe everything away with a damp microfiber cloth and then rinse with clean water.
- Dry the grout thoroughly afterward.
⚠️ Important
Avoid mixing cleaning products—especially bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or acids, because dangerous gases can be produced.
Also, baking soda isn’t appropriate for every surface. If you have natural stone, check the manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations first; acidic cleaners in particular can damage stone.
For moldy or deeply stained grout, a standard household cleaner may not be enough, and a properly formulated grout/mold cleaner may work better.
Tip: Keeping grout dry and cleaning spills promptly helps prevent the dirt and discoloration from building up again.
