Never uproot this plant if it appears in your garden.

🌱 “Never uproot this plant if it appears in your garden” is a catchy headline, but the plant needs to be identified before that advice can be trusted.

Some common volunteer plants—such as dandelion, purslane, clover, chickweed, and broadleaf plantain—can provide benefits such as food for pollinators, wildlife habitat, soil cover, or, in some cases, edible leaves. But other plants can be invasive, poisonous, or irritating, and even a beneficial plant may be undesirable if it spreads aggressively.

Before pulling—or eating—it:
Identify the plant accurately.
Check whether it’s invasive in your region.
Don’t eat an unidentified plant based on a social-media claim.
Be cautious with plants growing where pesticides, herbicides, or animal waste may be present.
Don’t assume “medicinal” means proven or safe.

If you upload a photo of the plant, I can help identify it and explain whether you should keep it, remove it, or avoid handling it.
