✨ How to Make Your Jewelry Shine Again: A Simple Cleaning Method
For many everyday pieces, you can restore some of the shine with warm water, a little mild dish soap, and a soft brush.
What you’ll need
A bowl of warm—not hot—water
A few drops of mild dishwashing liquid
A soft toothbrush or jewelry brush
A soft, lint-free microfiber cloth
Step-by-step
Make a gentle solution: Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
Soak briefly: Place suitable jewelry in the solution for about 5–10 minutes.
Brush gently: Use a very soft brush to loosen dirt around settings, links, and crevices. Don’t scrub aggressively.
Rinse thoroughly: Rinse with clean lukewarm water. For very small pieces, use a strainer so nothing goes down the drain.
Dry completely: Pat with a soft cloth, then allow the piece to air-dry fully before storing it.
Polish: For appropriate metals, gently buff with a jewelry-polishing or microfiber cloth to bring back the shine.
⚠️ Not all jewelry should be cleaned this way
Avoid soaking pearls, opals, turquoise, emeralds, glued stones, plated jewelry, or pieces with delicate/porous materials unless the manufacturer specifically says it’s safe. Don’t use bleach, toothpaste, baking soda, or harsh abrasives—they can scratch surfaces or damage finishes.
For valuable, antique, or heavily tarnished jewelry, professional cleaning is the safer option.
