From the age of 60, remember to wash these 5 overlooked areas of your body to stay fresh, healthy, and energized

The headline is a bit sensational. After 60, good hygiene remains important, but you don’t need to scrub your body aggressively or follow a special five-area rule. Some areas simply deserve extra attention because moisture, bacteria, and skin changes can make irritation more likely with age.

5 areas people sometimes overlook

  1. Behind the ears — Wash gently with soap and water and dry well. Don’t put cotton swabs deep into the ear canal.
  2. Between the toes and around the feet — Wash and, importantly, dry thoroughly between the toes. Persistent scaling, itching, cracking, or odor can indicate athlete’s foot.
  3. Skin folds — Pay attention to areas such as the groin, under the breasts, and abdominal folds. Moisture trapped there can cause irritation or fungal infections.
  4. The navel — A gentle wash with water and mild soap is sufficient. Dry it afterward.
  5. The genital and anal area — Clean gently and regularly, avoiding harsh soaps, scrubbing, or fragranced products that can irritate sensitive skin.

A useful tip for older skin

As skin becomes thinner and drier with age, hot water and vigorous scrubbing can actually make itching and dryness worse. Use lukewarm water, a gentle cleanser, and moisturize dry skin afterward.

You don’t need special “detox” soaps or antibacterial products for routine bathing. Gentle, consistent hygiene is enough for most people.

If you notice persistent rash, sores, unusual odor, discharge, bleeding, or skin changes that don’t heal, have them evaluated rather than simply washing more aggressively.
