Did you know that drinking water on an empty stomach could be… see more…

If the post is suggesting that drinking water on an empty stomach is dangerous, that’s generally misleading. For most healthy people, drinking water after waking up is safe and simply helps with hydration.

Claims that it “flushes toxins,” dramatically boosts metabolism, or specifically cleanses the liver or kidneys aren’t well supported.

A few practical points:

  • Drink water when you’re thirsty and throughout the day.

  • You don’t need to force yourself to drink a large amount immediately after waking.

  • Drinking too much water very quickly can be harmful because it can dilute blood sodium.

  • People with certain heart, kidney, or liver conditions may have individualized fluid restrictions.

So, a glass of water in the morning is generally fine—but there’s nothing uniquely medicinal about drinking it on an empty stomach.
