Clear your throat and lungs of mucus with this recipe – just 2 ingredients

If you’re referring to the popular two-ingredient mucus remedy, it’s important not to describe it as literally “clearing the lungs.” Home remedies may soothe an irritated throat or make mucus feel easier to cough up, but they don’t remove an underlying lung infection or treat conditions such as pneumonia, asthma, or COPD.

A Simple 2-Ingredient Soothing Drink

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 1–2 teaspoons honey

How to make it

  1. Warm the water until comfortably hot, not boiling.

  2. Stir in the honey.

  3. Sip slowly, especially when your throat feels irritated.

Honey can help soothe a cough in some people. Do not give honey to children under 1 year old.

If you’re producing mucus, drinking adequate fluids can help prevent secretions from becoming excessively thick. Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke, which can worsen coughing and mucus production.

When mucus needs medical attention

See a healthcare professional if you have mucus that persists for several weeks, recurrent wheezing, unexplained weight loss, fever, or worsening cough. Seek urgent care for significant difficulty breathing, chest pain, coughing up blood, blue/gray lips, or severe weakness.

If you meant a specific two-ingredient recipe from a video or post, send me the two ingredients and I can explain whether there’s evidence that they actually help.
