Does drinking water in the morning and after waking up have a beneficial effect on your overall well-being?

Yes. Drinking water after waking up can be beneficial, mainly because it helps you replace fluids lost overnight. But there’s nothing uniquely “detoxifying” about drinking water first thing in the morning.

💧 What it can help with
Hydration: Replaces some of the water lost through breathing and sweating while you sleep.
Digestion: Adequate fluid intake helps keep stools softer and may support regular bowel movements.
Alertness: Mild dehydration can contribute to tiredness or difficulty concentrating, so drinking water may help if you’re thirsty or dehydrated.
Kidney function: Staying adequately hydrated helps the kidneys remove waste through urine.
How much should you drink?

You don’t need to force down a large amount immediately after waking. A glass of water (roughly 250–350 mL) is perfectly reasonable if you’re thirsty. Your overall fluid intake throughout the day matters much more than the exact timing.

And you don’t need to drink hot water, lemon water, or special “detox water” for these benefits—plain water works well.
