Popular blood pressure drug linked to increased cardiac arrest risk

If you’re fact-checking this headline, the drug most likely being referred to is nifedipine, particularly at high doses.

A large observational study found that high-dose nifedipine (≥60 mg/day) was associated with a higher risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Importantly, the study did not find the same increased risk with amlodipine, and it was observational, so it cannot by itself prove that nifedipine caused the cardiac arrests.
