You may have seen the viral trick suggesting that putting an empty plastic bottle in the washing machine helps clean clothes or collect hair and lint.
The idea is that the bottle moves around with the laundry, creating extra agitation and potentially helping loosen some debris. However, it’s not a proven washing-machine cleaning method, and manufacturers generally don’t design machines for loose plastic objects inside the drum.

Use a clean, sturdy plastic bottle with the cap firmly secured.
Make sure there are no sharp edges or cracks.
Don’t use a bottle that could break apart during a high-speed spin.
Stop immediately if the machine begins making unusual noises or vibrating excessively.
A safer approach
For cleaner clothes, you’re better off not overloading the washer, using the correct amount of detergent, and cleaning the machine’s filter/gasket as recommended by the manufacturer.
