“This Burns Weeds in 1 Day! They Never Grow Again” — Is It True?
Be skeptical of this viral gardening claim. Burning or scorching weeds does not reliably prevent them from returning. Many weeds can regrow from roots, crowns, or underground rhizomes even after their leaves are destroyed.
🌱 What actually works?
- Pull or dig out young weeds, removing as much of the root system as possible.
- Mulch garden beds with an appropriate layer of organic mulch to block light and suppress new weeds.
- For cracks in paving, repeated removal is often more effective than trying to burn the plants.
- If using an herbicide, choose one specifically labeled for the weed and location, and follow the label exactly.
🔥 Don’t use homemade “weed burners”
Avoid experimenting with gasoline, kerosene, bleach, or other flammable or corrosive substances. They can cause fires, toxic exposure, soil damage, and harm to desirable plants.
Boiling water or flame weeding can kill the visible portion of some weeds, but they aren’t guaranteed to kill the roots, so regrowth is possible.
Bottom line: There is no safe one-day household recipe that guarantees weeds will never grow again. The most reliable approach depends on whether the weeds are in a lawn, garden bed, or cracks in paving.
