Dump cabbage and these ingredients in slow cooker for a meal guests will crave over and and over

🥬 Slow Cooker Cabbage & Smoked Sausage

A true dump-and-go comfort meal: tender cabbage, smoky sausage, potatoes, and onions cook together in a flavorful broth. Similar slow-cooker versions use this same simple combination and cook until the cabbage is tender. (Budget Bytes)

Ingredients

  • 1 small head green cabbage, cut into chunks
  • 1 lb smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 1½ lb baby potatoes, halved
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, optional

Directions

  1. Layer the potatoes and onion in the bottom of a 5–6 quart slow cooker.
  2. Add the chopped cabbage and sprinkle with garlic powder, paprika, pepper, and a little salt.
  3. Add the sliced sausage on top.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and dot the top with butter.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for about 4 hours, until the potatoes and cabbage are tender. (Budget Bytes)
  6. Stir gently, taste, and adjust the seasoning.
  7. Sprinkle with parsley and serve hot with crusty bread or cornbread.

⭐ The little upgrade

For deeper flavor, brown the sausage in a skillet before adding it. It’s an extra step, but the browned edges add a delicious savory flavor.

Serves: 6
Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 6–8 hours on LOW

Tip: Don’t worry if the slow cooker looks very full at first—the cabbage shrinks substantially as it cooks. (Slow Cooker 365)
