If you want a simple homemade weed-control solution, the safest approach depends on where the weeds are growing.
🌿 Homemade Weed Control
1. Boiling water — best for cracks and paths
Pour boiling water directly over weeds, taking care to avoid desirable plants. It works by damaging the plant tissue and is especially useful on weeds growing through pavement or gravel.
2. Vinegar solution — for targeted spot treatment
Household white vinegar can damage foliage, but it is not selective: it can also injure flowers, vegetables, and grass. Spray only the weed foliage on a calm, dry day and avoid nearby plants.
3. Mulch — best for garden beds
A 5–10 cm layer of organic mulch such as wood chips or straw blocks light and suppresses many new weeds. Keep mulch a little away from plant stems and tree trunks.
Important: Don’t assume that “natural” means harmless. Salt-based weed killers can damage soil and nearby plants for a long time, so I wouldn’t recommend spreading salt in garden beds. Likewise, never mix household chemicals together.
For a vegetable garden, mulching + hand-pulling + shallow cultivation is generally a much safer long-term strategy than homemade chemical sprays.
