Ever Noticed That Tiny Hole on Your Nail Clipper? Here’s What It’s Actually For

That tiny hole on your nail clipper is easy to overlook, but it can serve a surprisingly practical purpose.

On many nail clippers, the round hole at the end of the lever is designed to let you attach the clipper to a key ring, chain, or lanyard. Since nail clippers are small and easy to lose, the opening makes them convenient to carry or keep with other grooming tools.

There’s also a bit of variation between designs. On some clippers, openings or holes may be incorporated into the manufacturing or assembly of the tool, so not every hole has exactly the same function.

What it isn’t for

Despite some claims online, the hole generally isn’t a secret feature that makes nails easier to cut, nor is it specifically designed to hold nail clippings.

So next time you use your nail clipper, take a closer look—you may have been carrying a tiny, deliberately designed attachment point all along.
