“My big toe was on fire… until I discovered these 5 drinks that naturally eliminate uric acid!”

If you’re referring to gout or high uric acid, there isn’t a drink that can reliably “eliminate uric acid” or cure gout. However, some drinks can support hydration and may be useful alongside medical treatment.

5 drinks that can help

  1. Water 💧
Staying well hydrated helps the kidneys excrete uric acid. Water is the most important choice.

  2. Low-fat milk 🥛
Dairy consumption, particularly low-fat dairy, has been associated with a lower risk of gout in observational research.

  3. Unsweetened coffee ☕
Regular coffee consumption has been associated with lower uric-acid levels and gout risk in some studies. This doesn’t mean you should start drinking coffee specifically as a treatment.

  4. Unsweetened tea 🍵
Tea can contribute to fluid intake, although evidence that it meaningfully lowers uric acid is much less convincing than the evidence for general hydration.

  5. Water with lemon 🍋
It’s a reasonable way to make water more appealing, but claims that lemon water “flushes out” or dissolves uric-acid crystals aren’t established. The benefit is primarily getting more fluid.

What to limit

Beer and spirits, and especially sugar-sweetened soft drinks and drinks containing high-fructose corn syrup, can increase gout risk. Large amounts of fruit juice can also provide substantial fructose.

If your big toe is “on fire”

Sudden, severe pain with redness, warmth, swelling, and extreme tenderness of the big-toe joint is classic for a gout attack, but other conditions—including a joint infection—can look similar. If this is your first attack, you have fever, or the joint is extremely painful and swollen, seek medical evaluation promptly.

If you already have diagnosed gout, lifestyle measures can help, but prescription urate-lowering treatment such as allopurinol is often needed for recurrent or high-risk gout. Don’t stop or change gout medication based solely on a drink or home remedy.
