Did you know that drinking water on an empty stomach could be… see more…

If you’re referring to the viral headline “Drinking water on an empty stomach could be…”, the missing claim is often exaggerated.

What drinking water first thing in the morning can actually do

  • Rehydrate you: You haven’t had fluids while sleeping, so water can help replace some of that lost fluid.

  • Support bowel movements: Adequate hydration can help prevent constipation.

  • Temporarily reduce appetite: Drinking water before a meal may make you feel somewhat fuller.

  • Support normal kidney function: Your kidneys need adequate fluid to regulate the body’s water and waste balance.

  • It does not “detox” your body: Your liver and kidneys already perform the body’s detoxification processes.

  • It doesn’t magically burn belly fat: There is no special fat-burning effect from drinking water specifically on an empty stomach.

For most healthy people, the timing of water matters much less than getting adequate fluids throughout the day. Avoid forcing very large amounts of water at once.
