🥬 Toss Raw Cabbage Wedges in the Slow Cooker With 3 Simple Things
If you want an easy, comforting dinner with almost no hands-on work, cabbage wedges are perfect for the slow cooker.
Slow-Cooker Cabbage Wedges
You’ll need:
- 1 head of green cabbage, cut into wedges
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3–4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
- Salt and black pepper
- Optional: smoked paprika, caraway seeds, or red-pepper flakes
How to make it
- Cut the cabbage into thick wedges, leaving a little of the core attached so the wedges stay together.
- Add the onion and garlic to the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Place the cabbage wedges on top.
- Pour in the broth and dot the cabbage with butter or drizzle with olive oil.
- Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Cover and cook on LOW for about 5–6 hours, or until the cabbage is tender.
For extra flavor, brown some smoked sausage, bacon, or kielbasa first and add it to the slow cooker.
The best part
The cabbage slowly absorbs the savory broth while becoming incredibly tender. Serve it as a simple vegetarian side, or add sausage, potatoes, beans, or shredded chicken to turn it into a complete meal.
Three simple flavor-builders—onion, garlic, and broth—plus cabbage, and the slow cooker does almost all the work.
