There are no baking-soda recipes proven to burn belly fat. This is a common viral weight-loss claim, and drinking baking soda can actually be harmful in excessive amounts.
Why baking soda doesn’t burn fat
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) can neutralize stomach acid, but there’s no good evidence that drinking it increases fat burning or specifically reduces abdominal fat. Any short-term change on the scale would more likely be fluid or digestive changes—not loss of body fat.
Safer alternatives
If your goal is reducing abdominal fat, focus on:
-
Protein-rich foods at meals
-
Plenty of vegetables, fruit, legumes, and whole grains
-
Limiting sugary drinks and highly processed foods
-
Resistance training 2–3 times per week
-
Regular walking or other aerobic activity
-
Adequate sleep
Avoid taking large amounts of baking soda, particularly if you have high blood pressure, kidney or heart problems, because it contains a substantial amount of sodium and can disturb your body’s acid-base and electrolyte balance.
Bottom line: You don’t need a special drink to “melt belly fat.” Sustainable nutrition and physical activity are far more effective—and safer.
