#1 Vitamin to Eliminate Swollen Legs and Ankles

There isn’t a single vitamin that reliably eliminates swollen legs or ankles. Swelling (edema) has many possible causes, and treating the cause is more important than taking a supplement.

Common causes of swollen ankles

  • Sitting or standing for long periods

  • High salt intake

  • Certain medications

  • Venous insufficiency (blood pooling in the legs)

  • Injury or inflammation

  • Heart, kidney, or liver problems

  • Blood clots, particularly when swelling is sudden and affects one leg

What you can do

For mild swelling after prolonged sitting or standing, elevating your legs, moving regularly, and reducing excessive salt intake may help. Compression stockings can also be useful for some people, but they aren’t appropriate for everyone.

Don’t take high-dose vitamin B, C, D, or E supplements specifically to treat edema unless a healthcare professional has identified a deficiency or another reason to use them.

Seek urgent medical care if swelling suddenly develops in one leg, especially with pain, warmth, or redness, or if swelling occurs with shortness of breath or chest pain.

If you tell me whether the swelling is in one leg or both, how long you’ve had it, and whether you have pain or shortness of breath, I can explain the more likely causes.
