Very Leafy Orchid? Give It the Right Watering Routine
If your orchid has lots of healthy leaves but isn’t flowering, there isn’t a magic liquid that will make it “10 times more beautiful.” The biggest difference usually comes from proper light, watering, drainage, and nutrition.
💧 What should you water it with?
For most common Phalaenopsis orchids, ordinary water is fine. Water thoroughly when the potting medium is approaching dry, then let excess water drain completely.
If your tap water is very hard, rainwater or filtered water may sometimes be preferable.
🌱 For stronger growth
During active growth, use a balanced orchid fertilizer diluted according to the product’s directions. Fertilizing more heavily doesn’t make an orchid grow faster—it can damage the roots.
☀️ Don’t forget the light
Bright, indirect light is particularly important. A healthy orchid may produce plenty of leaves without flowering if its light conditions aren’t suitable.
🚫 Skip kitchen “miracle fertilizers”
Be cautious with recipes involving sugar, milk, baking soda, coffee grounds, or other kitchen ingredients. They aren’t reliable orchid fertilizers and can encourage pests, mold, or root problems.
