Amlodipine is generally well tolerated, but it can cause side effects that are easy to overlook. Here are 12 worth knowing about—and what to do if they occur.
- Swollen ankles or feet — the most characteristic side effect, and it can be dose-related. Elevating the legs may help, but persistent swelling should be discussed with your clinician. DailyMed+1

When to seek urgent help
Get urgent medical attention for difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat or tongue, fainting, severe or persistent chest pain, or a severe blistering/peeling skin reaction. Rarely, serious reactions such as pancreatitis can occur. nhs.uk
Don’t stop amlodipine on your own because of side effects. Your doctor or pharmacist can determine whether the dose should be adjusted or whether another blood-pressure medicine would be more appropriate. nhs.uk
