This natural and effective remedy for relieving constipation

A Natural Approach to Relieving Constipation

For occasional constipation, a simple combination of fiber, fluids, movement, and a regular toilet routine can help. One particularly useful food-based option is prunes (dried plums), which provide fiber and sorbitol, a carbohydrate that can help draw water into the bowel.

Try this

  • Eat a small serving of prunes or drink prune juice.

  • Increase fiber gradually with oats, vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, and whole grains.

  • Drink adequate fluids, unless you’ve been told to restrict them.

  • Take a walk or stay physically active.

  • When you feel the urge to have a bowel movement, don’t repeatedly postpone it.

Give dietary changes some time; constipation doesn’t necessarily resolve immediately.

Avoid risky “natural” remedies

Don’t rely on strong herbal “detox” drinks, excessive amounts of oil, or repeated laxative use without medical advice. Natural products can still cause dehydration, electrolyte problems, or medication interactions.

🚨 Get medical advice promptly if

Constipation comes with severe or persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, significant abdominal swelling, blood in the stool, fever, or inability to pass gas. New, persistent constipation or constipation accompanied by unexplained weight loss or a major change in bowel habits should also be evaluated.

Bottom line: Prunes plus gradually increased fiber, adequate fluids, and regular movement are reasonable first steps for occasional constipation—but persistent constipation deserves a proper evaluation.
