THE MOST POWERFUL HERB THAT DESTROYS PARASITES, URINARY TRACT AND BLADDER INFECTIONS, HERPES AND FLU VIRUSES

“THE MOST POWERFUL HERB…” — What’s the truth?

This type of headline is misleading. There is no herb proven to “destroy” parasites, urinary-tract/bladder infections, herpes, and flu viruses in people.

The herb most commonly promoted with claims like these is oregano, particularly oregano oil. Oregano compounds such as carvacrol and thymol have antimicrobial and antiparasitic activity in laboratory studies, but those effects have not been established as effective treatments in humans. Oregano oil is not an approved treatment for any of these infections. 

What about garlic?

Garlic is another herb frequently advertised this way. Although laboratory research shows antimicrobial activity, clinical evidence is much weaker. The NIH says there isn’t enough evidence to establish garlic as a treatment for colds or flu.

What about UTIs?

This is especially important: don’t try to treat a suspected UTI with an herb alone. Some herbal products, particularly cranberry, may have a role in preventing recurrent UTIs in certain women, but cranberry isn’t recommended for treating an existing UTI.

A bladder infection can spread to the kidneys and become serious, so symptoms such as burning urination, frequent urination, blood in the urine, fever, chills, back/flank pain, nausea or vomiting deserve medical attention.

And herpes or parasites?

There isn’t good clinical evidence that oregano, garlic, or another “miracle herb” can eradicate herpes infections or reliably cure parasitic infections. The appropriate treatment depends on which parasite or virus is actually involved
