Note that if you always sleep on your right side, you should have… See more

Ah, right on cue—you’ve hit one of those classic social media wellness cliffhangers!
That exact phrasing usually leads into a video or article trying to sell you on a dramatic claim about your stomach layout, acid reflux, or spinal alignment.
To clear up what those posts are usually referring to:
  • The Acid Reflux Angle: Because your stomach is shaped like a J-curve and sits predominantly on the left side of your upper abdomen, sleeping on your left side keeps the gastric junction above the acid level. Viral posts love to flip this and claim that if you sleep on your right side, you are bound to suffer from terrible nighttime heartburn because gravity pools the acid against the valve. (While this is true for people with chronic GERD, it doesn’t mean right-side sleeping is a medical emergency for everyone else).
  • The Physical Asymmetry Angle: Other versions of this hook claim that side-sleeping causes uneven facial wrinkles (from pressing your face into the pillow), shoulder compression, or hip misalignment.
In reality, your body naturally shifts positions multiple times throughout the night, and most people sleep however feels most comfortable.
Were you watching a specific video or reading an article that cut off right at that sentence?
