If the claim is “Never use magnesium if you are taking any of the following medications…”, that’s too absolute. Magnesium supplements can interact with some medicines, but they arenot universally unsafe with medications.
Important examples include:
- Certain antibiotics such as tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones — magnesium can reduce their absorption. They generally need to be taken several hours apart.
- Levothyroxine — magnesium can interfere with absorption, so spacing doses is important.
- Bisphosphonates used for osteoporosis — magnesium can reduce absorption.
- Some diuretics and other medicines can affect magnesium levels or kidney function.
- Kidney disease: Extra magnesium can accumulate when the kidneys cannot remove it effectively and should only be taken with medical guidance.
Also, magnesium from normal foods is different from taking a concentrated magnesium supplement.
If you send me the full list of medications from the post (or a screenshot), I can go through each one and tell you whether the interaction is real, whether doses need to be separated, and what the concern is.
