If you have a heart attack at home, do this in 10 seconds and you can save your life.(1 / 2)

If you think you’re having a heart attack at home

There is no 10-second maneuver that can reliably stop or reverse a heart attack. Claims about coughing forcefully, drinking water, or performing a particular movement to “save your life” are misleading.

If you develop symptoms that could be a heart attack:

  1. Call your local emergency medical service immediately. Don’t wait to see whether it goes away.

  2. Stop what you’re doing and sit or lie somewhere safe. Unlock the door if you’re alone so responders can get in.

  3. If you have prescribed nitroglycerin, take it exactly as previously instructed.

  4. Ask about aspirin: If you are an alert adult with suspected heart attack, emergency-care guidance may recommend chewing an aspirin (typically 160–325 mg) if you aren’t allergic to aspirin and haven’t been told to avoid it. If you’re uncertain, follow the emergency dispatcher’s instructions.

  5. Don’t drive yourself to the hospital unless there is absolutely no alternative.

  6. If the person becomes unresponsive and isn’t breathing normally, someone should call emergency services and begin CPR; use an AED if one is available.

🚨 Symptoms to take seriously

Possible heart-attack symptoms include pressure, squeezing, or discomfort in the chest; pain spreading to the arm, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen; shortness of breath; cold sweating; nausea; or sudden unusual weakness. Symptoms can vary considerably between people.

If this is happening right now, call emergency services rather than trying an internet remedy.
