How to remove scratches from glasses and restore their new, shiny appearance: a simple recipe

đź‘“ Can You Remove Scratches From Glasses at Home?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a reliable DIY recipe that actually removes scratches from modern eyeglass lenses. Scratches are physical damage, and substances such as toothpaste, baking soda, or furniture polish can make things worse by damaging the lens surface or its protective coatings.

A safe way to improve their appearance
Rinse the lenses with lukewarm water to remove dust.
Add a tiny amount of mild dish soap and gently clean the lenses with your fingertips.
Rinse thoroughly.
Dry with a clean microfiber lens cloth.
If the marks remain, they’re likely genuine scratches rather than surface dirt.
If they’re actually scratched

Take the glasses to an optician. Minor scratches generally can’t be safely polished out without potentially distorting the lens; replacement is often the best solution.

Avoid DIY abrasives, especially on anti-reflective, UV, or other coated lenses. A “shiny” appearance isn’t worth compromising the optical quality of the lenses.
