How to clean a ceramic-glass cooktop safely
The key is to soften burnt-on residue first and use only non-abrasive tools.
-
Let the cooktop cool completely. Never pour cold water onto a hot glass surface.
-
Remove loose crumbs with a soft microfiber cloth.
-
Apply a little dish soap and warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to loosen grease and residue.
-
Wipe gently with a microfiber cloth or non-scratch sponge.
-
For stubborn, baked-on residue, use a cooktop-safe glass scraper/razor designed specifically for ceramic cooktops. Keep the blade nearly flat against the surface and push gently—don’t gouge or scrape aggressively.
-
Wipe away the residue, then clean again with a damp microfiber cloth.
-
Dry and polish with a clean microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
Avoid these
-
Steel wool or scouring pads
-
Abrasive powders and harsh scrubbers
-
Knives or ordinary razor blades
-
Scrubbing with gritty baking-soda paste
-
Dragging heavy or dirty cookware across the surface
-
Cleaning products containing abrasive particles unless the manufacturer specifically says they’re suitable
For sugary spills: clean them as soon as safely possible according to your cooktop’s manual, because melted sugar can adhere strongly and potentially damage the glass.
If you tell me the brand/model of your cooktop, I can also give you the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning method and products.
