How to Clean Your Home Floor with Just 3 Ingredients — Never Had It So White ✨
For many sealed, washable floors, you can make a simple cleaning solution with three household ingredients:
🧽 The 3-ingredient mix
- Warm water — about 4 liters (1 gallon)
- A small amount of mild dishwashing liquid — around 1 teaspoon
- White vinegar — about ½ cup
How to use it
- Sweep or vacuum first to remove loose dirt and grit.
- Mix the ingredients in a bucket.
- Dip a microfiber mop into the solution and wring it out well.
- Mop the floor without soaking it.
- If the floor feels sticky afterward, go over it once with clean water.
- Allow the surface to dry thoroughly.
⚠️ Check your flooring first
Don’t use vinegar on every type of floor. Acidic cleaners can damage or dull natural stone such as marble, limestone, travertine, and some other stone surfaces. For these, use a cleaner specifically labeled safe for the material.
For wood, laminate, vinyl, and other specialty flooring, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions rather than assuming vinegar is safe.
And never mix vinegar with bleach or ammonia—dangerous fumes can result.
Also, “whiter” isn’t necessarily cleaner: if a floor has permanent discoloration, worn finish, or staining, a homemade solution may not restore its original appearance.
