Clear your throat and lungs of mucus with this recipe – just 2 ingredients

If you’re referring to a viral “2-ingredient mucus-clearing recipe,” be cautious. There isn’t a proven homemade drink that can literally “clear your lungs” of mucus. Your lungs normally clear mucus through coughing and the body’s airway-cleaning mechanisms.

A simple, low-risk option

If the goal is simply to soothe an irritated throat, warm water + honey can be useful for cough relief:

  • Mix 1–2 teaspoons of honey into a cup of warm water.
  • Sip it slowly.
  • Honey should not be given to children under 1 year old.

It may soothe coughing, but it doesn’t treat pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, or another underlying lung condition.

To help loosen mucus

  • Drink adequate fluids.
  • Use a clean cool-mist humidifier if the air is dry.
  • Avoid smoking and vaping.
  • If nasal drainage is contributing to throat mucus, saline nasal spray/rinsing can help.
  • Don’t use very hot steam or put essential oils into a nebulizer or directly into your lungs.

🚨 Get medical attention when needed

See a healthcare professional if mucus persists for several weeks, repeatedly returns, or comes with fever, wheezing, or worsening cough.

Coughing up blood, severe breathing difficulty, blue/gray lips, confusion, or significant chest pain requires urgent medical care.

So the “two ingredients” may provide symptom relief, but no recipe can safely replace diagnosis and treatment when there’s an underlying lung problem.
