Cheese Pizza with Unpeeled Sausage
Ingredients
-
1 pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
-
½ cup pizza sauce
-
1½–2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-
200–250 g sausage with its casing left on, sliced into thin rounds
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
½ tsp dried oregano
-
½ tsp chili flakes, optional
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
-
Heat the oven to 230°C (450°F). Place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside while it heats.
-
Prepare the sausage: Keep the sausage casing intact and slice it into thin pieces. If the sausage is raw, make sure it is fully cooked before eating; for thick raw sausage, you can cook it in a skillet first until the center reaches 71°C/160°F for pork or beef sausage.
-
Shape the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 30-cm (12-inch) circle.
-
Add toppings: Spread the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle on the mozzarella, then arrange the sausage slices on top.
-
Drizzle lightly with olive oil and add oregano, black pepper, and chili flakes if desired.
-
Bake for about 10–15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling. If you pre-cooked the sausage, it only needs to heat and brown on the pizza.
-
Let it cool for 2–3 minutes, slice, and serve.
Safety note: If by “unpeeled sausage” you mean sausage still in its natural casing, that’s fine—the casing is generally intended to be eaten. If you’re unsure whether a particular casing is edible, remove it before cooking.
