The claim “Bay leaf is 1,000,000× stronger than Botox and erases all wrinkles, even at 70” is not supported by scientific evidence. I would not rely on it as a treatment for wrinkles.
🌿 What do we actually know about bay leaves?
Bay leaf (Laurus nobilis) contains various aromatic and antioxidant compounds, and researchers have investigated bay-laurel preparations for potential skin applications. However, the available research is early-stage. A recent study of bay-laurel hydrosols found some laboratory antioxidant and wound-healing activity, but the researchers specifically noted that the dermatological effects remain insufficiently studied and that more research is needed.
There is no good clinical evidence showing that rubbing bay-leaf preparations on the face removes wrinkles, let alone that it is “a million times stronger than Botox.”
💉 Why Botox is different
Botulinum toxin works through a very specific mechanism: when injected into targeted facial muscles, it temporarily blocks nerve signals that cause those muscles to contract. This reduces certain dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines and crow’s feet.
Botulinum toxin typically produces visible improvement within several days and lasts around 3–4 months, although duration varies.
Bay leaf does not have this established muscle-relaxing mechanism.
⚠️ Be careful with homemade bay-leaf mixtures
Putting concentrated bay-leaf oil, essential oil, or homemade extracts directly on facial skin isn’t automatically safe. Essential oils and concentrated plant compounds can cause irritation or allergic reactions, particularly on sensitive or mature skin.
For genuine wrinkle prevention, the measures with much better evidence include daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, avoiding excessive sun exposure, moisturization, and appropriately used retinoid products. The CDC also lists sunscreen and retinoid-containing skincare among approaches that can help prevent or smooth wrinkles.
