A month before a stroke, your body warns you: 10 signs not to ignore…

The claim that “your body warns you exactly one month before a stroke” is misleading. A stroke can occur suddenly with no advance warning. However, some people experience a TIA (transient ischemic attack) beforehand. A TIA causes temporary stroke-like symptoms and is an emergency warning that a major stroke may follow.

10 warning signs you should never ignore

  1. Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the face, arm, or leg.

  2. Sudden facial drooping on one side.

  3. Sudden difficulty speaking, slurred speech, or trouble understanding speech.

  4. Sudden vision changes in one or both eyes.

  5. Sudden dizziness or loss of balance/coordination.

  6. Sudden difficulty walking or controlling a limb.

  7. Sudden confusion or difficulty understanding what is happening.

  8. Sudden difficulty swallowing.

  9. A sudden, unusually severe headache, particularly when accompanied by other neurological symptoms.

  10. Brief symptoms that completely disappear — this can still be a TIA and requires urgent assessment.

Remember FAST

  • F — Face: Does one side droop?

  • A — Arms: Can both arms be raised normally?

  • S — Speech: Is speech slurred or unusual?

  • T — Time: Call emergency medical services immediately.

Don’t wait for symptoms to disappear and don’t drive yourself to the hospital. Time-sensitive treatment can save brain tissue and reduce disability.

If any of these symptoms are happening right now—even if they’ve already gone away—seek emergency medical attention immediately.
