🌿 Garlic, Turmeric, Onion, Ginger & Cinnamon Tea
If you want a warming herbal drink in the morning or after dinner, you can make it with these ingredients. Guava leaves are optional and aren’t necessary for the basic tea.
Simple recipe
Ingredients
1½ cups water
2–3 thin slices fresh ginger
½ teaspoon turmeric powder (or a small piece of fresh turmeric)
1 small garlic clove, lightly crushed
1 small piece of onion, sliced
1 small cinnamon stick
2–3 clean guava leaves
Optional: 1 teaspoon honey, added after the drink cools slightly
Method
Bring the water to a boil.
Add the ginger, turmeric, garlic, onion, cinnamon, and guava leaves.
Reduce the heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes.
Strain into a cup.
Add honey if desired.
Drink warm.
🌱 What are the benefits?
These ingredients contain various bioactive compounds, but it’s important not to overstate their effects:
Ginger: May help with nausea and digestion.
Turmeric: Contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory properties, although drinking turmeric tea isn’t equivalent to taking a standardized curcumin supplement.
Garlic: Contains sulfur compounds and may modestly support cardiovascular health as part of a healthy diet.
Onion: Provides flavonoids and other antioxidant compounds.
Cinnamon: Adds flavor and contains polyphenols; evidence that ordinary culinary amounts meaningfully lower blood sugar is limited.
Guava leaves: Traditionally used in teas, but evidence for treating diabetes, cholesterol, or other diseases isn’t strong enough to consider the tea a treatment.
⚠️ A few precautions
This isn’t a proven detox, blood-clot dissolver, diabetes cure, or weight-loss treatment. Also, concentrated amounts of garlic, turmeric, ginger, or cinnamon may interact with medications—particularly blood thinners or diabetes medicines—and may cause stomach irritation.
For an everyday drink, I’d keep the ingredients culinary-strength rather than making an extremely concentrated brew.
